My daisies garden

I have finally brave myself to start on a fondant project!!! Just a simple project. I am very pleased with the result. I made the fondant from the recipe Kak Min has on her Baking Project website. Attended one of her classes with Elina. Very hands on, highly recommend it.

I still have some fondant left. Maybe tomorrow, if the boys behave, I'll let them have a go at it. Might want to try making figurines. Maybe start with animal cartoon figure kan? Yeay!

Bunda, i want cookie cut!

My son no. 2 a.k.a the clown, insisted we should get new cookie cutter. why? I didn't ask, because he will give me reasons I won't understand anyway. so why not. Have not been to the baking supply shop since my forest's secret project.

We went to a shop in Sunway Damansara. Not 'the' shop, but one of the cheaper ones. Got ourselves some nice cookie cutters at a reasonable price, I think. My son picked out an ice cream shaped cookie cutter. Have not tried that yet. But will do, with him, of course.

Tonight, I tried the little birdie and bunny cookie cutters with a butter cookie recipe. They turned out well. I think, they can make good themed party favours, no?

Comfort Food

A friend came home from Umrah. Had a little homecoming 'kenduri'. Nothing formal. We decide to just have a small do. The theme was pink. Made chocolate cookies with pink icing. Guests arrived just when I was about to put icing on the cookies. An architect friend volunteered to work on the designs. Thanks Hanitah and Welcome Home Aleysha!!!!

Husband's Birthday

We didn't get to celebrate my husband's birthday properly because TWO of our children were warded on his birthday. Kesian them all. So, we did a belated birthday surprise party. Just a small party with 3 special guests from Melaka. Because the birthday boy is on a special no carbo diet ( a very good diet program because he manage to shed 5 kilos in a month, impressive right? ), I had to use the Splenda sweetener to replace sugar for his cake. I don't quite like it, because it has a funny after taste. I personally think, Splenda sweetener works okay for making chocolate cake. But for Orange Almond cake, I will stick to the good ol' sugar. Happy birthday husband a.k.a ayah!

Asked the kids what they want written on the cake, they gave me a long "Thank you" speech for ayah. Told them we won't be able to fit all of that on the cake. So, just a short Thanx Ayah saja should do the trick. Because the boys planned the party, we had to do it their way.

Step 1: Get the cake
Step 2: Put up decoration ( this I didn't do, because of time constraint )
Step 3: Keep ayah busy
Step 4: Hide
Step 5: Get ayah and SURPRISE!

Eggy day

My weekday mornings are usually occupied by the baby and my little clown. Although my little clown is four, and will be turning five this year, you would think he should be in preschool already and if he's not, he'd be missing out on the early development teaching stuff and he'd be behind all the other children academically. Thing is, I watched a documentary on Smart Babies last weekend, and they have proven that children learn at the same rate, regardless of the age they started learning. So, a child exposed to formal teaching at four, is not always a better student than a child who started learning at the age of nine. So, it's okay to not send him to school just yet. Plus good preschools are expensive. I rather give him a year of schooling at a good preschool than 3 years at a shabby one. If the school is good, he should be able to catch up fast, like his brother.

So, what do i do with him at home? He plays with his sister, I read him stories from his books, cycle around the frontyard, help me with do-able housechores. And his favourite is helping me bake. And today we made egg tarts. My little clown was an excellent assistant! He helped me cracked the eggs, pour in the ingredients, mixing them and volunteered to taste the first batch. Thank you darling, Mummy loves you too!

Cupcake Fun!

Had my niece and nephews over for a night stay at Bunda's. Didn't want them to play the 'evil' Wii too much, so got them to play with icing instead. It was messy, but FUN. And they were very pleased with themselves too. Thought I should share some photos.

I am thinking of offering Cupcake Fun classes to anyone interested. Am thinking of say a group of 6 children maximum. Age between 6-12. On weekends. Lesson will include measuring the ingredients, mixing the batter, preparing the icing and piping. All material will be provided. Just bring an apron and kain buruk (wipe cloth). Each child gets to take home 6 cupcakes. I am thinking of charging only RM40 per child. So drop me a memo, if interested.

Cake projects 2009

Hello, it has been a long long while since my last post. I got NO TIME la lately. School runs and all ( although my son goes to the kindie across the street from home je now, like real real school run, literally. Geddit? I run him to school from the house? ) ANYWAY, thought I should just post up pictures of all the cakes I did last year, for record purposes kan? And because I am so lazy and GOT NO TIME to describe every each one of them, I'm just going to upload them and label themlike they do in catalogues.

Dad's birthday cake, sugar free chocolate cake. I use Splenda Sweetenner to substitute sugar. Should be available in all supermarket. I got mine from Village Grocer, Bangsar Village. My favourite supermarket because they have everything I need.

Mum's birthday cake, orange almond cake. Express cake ni. Started baking in the afternoon, party was at night. The cake says 'We Love Misyik' because the cucus (grandchildren) call my mother Misyik. Misyik is Achehnese for Nenek/Grandma.

I made these animal cookies with my boys. Bought the cookie cutter from that kitchen shop at The Gardens. Forgot the name of the shop, but it's near the Robinson's. They've got nice baking tools there. Pricey, but nice. Didn't get to explore my creativity on these cookies, because they all disappeared from the cooling rack. Hisy!

T Rex cake for my Akalil. My boys are dino fans and t rex is their favourite dino. This is a chocolate cake. Got the pan from Cake Connection in PJ. They have this plastic cake pan. Very good because it's cheap. Cost me RM16 je.

Haaaa, dah new year, more new baking project in my baking lab. Wish me luck!
